Welcome to a collection of genealogical materials related to the South Hams area of Devon, England. These materials include transcriptions of church registers, memorial inscriptions and the 1841 and 1861 censuses, as well as transcriptions of or links to other relevant resources. A free lookup service is also provided. For our purposes, the South Hams is defined as the area between Dartmoor and the sea bounded by the Rivers Erme & Dart. A few adjacent parishes are included for convenience.

Dedicated to the memory of Ray Emery Osborn (1931-2010), who founded this site. Ray was a champion among genealogists and did much to ensure that vital records from the South Hams were collected and preserved. He did many of the transcriptions on this site and readily shared his extensive knowledge via a friendly lookup service that assisted many, many people who had Devon roots. Our aim is to ensure that Ray's work is both preserved and continued. Ray's ancestry was "firmly rooted in the South Hams", at least on his father's side. His Osborn/Rawkins Family web site is still available and can be easily searched. |
