Alsager was a township in Barthomley ancient parish, Nantwich hundred
(SJ 7955), which became a civil parish in 1866.
It includes the hamlets of Cranberry Moss, Cresswellshawe, Day Green (part),
Fanny's Croft, Linley (partly in Staffs), Merelake, Sunnyside, and Talke (partly
in Staffs).
The population was 275 in 1801, 473 in 1851, 2597 in 1901, and 5575 in 1951.
Churches and Chapels
Barthomley: St. Bertoline (Church
of England). The ancient parish church for the township of Alsager.
Alsager: Christ Church
(Church of England). A chapel to Barthomley built in 1789, which became
the district church for the township of Alsager in 1852.
