Altrincham (pronounced All-tringum) was a township in Bowdon Parish, Bucklow Hundred (SJ 7887). The civil parish was extended in 1920 to include the Oldfield
Brow area of Dunham Massey civil parish, and again in 1936 to include parts of Bowdon, Dunham
Massey, Hale and Timperley civil parishes. In 1974 Altrincham was transferred to the county of Greater Manchester.
Includes the hamlet of Broadheath.
The population was 1692 in 1801, 4488 in 1851, 16831 in 1901 and 39789 in 1951.

Altrincham, St. John the Evangelist (C of E). Built 1866 as a chapel to St George, created a parish church the following year to serve parts of Altrincham, Dunham Massey and Timperley. Registers of Baptisms 1866-1949 and Marriages 1867-1984 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office (no burials here).
Broadheath, St. Alban (C of E). Manchester Road/Linsdell Road. Built 1890 as a chapel to St. George, becoming the parish church for the Broadheath area in 1911.

Altrincham, St. Vincent de Paul (Roman Catholic), Bentlinck Road. The present church was opened in 1904, replacing an earlier building in New Street (founded 1847).
