BETCHTON

• Betchton was a township in Sandbach ancient parish, Northwich hundred (SJ 7858), which became a civil parish in 1866.
• It includes the hamlets of Boult's Green, Chellshill, Dean Hill, Dubthorne (part), Four Lane Ends (part), Hassall Green, Lawton Heath End, Malkin's Bank (part) and Roughwood.
• The population was 578 in 1801, 822 in 1851, 692 in 1901, and 719 in 1951.

Churches and Chapels

• Sandbach: St. Mary (Church of England). The ancient parish church for the township of Betchton.
• Wheelock: Christ Church (Church of England). The district church for part of Betchton from 1843.
• Sandbach Heath: St. John the Evangelist (Church of England). The district church for part of Betchton from 1861.
• Malkins Bank, Methodist Chapel (Primitive). Built in 1859, closed in 1969. Registers 1843-1946 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
• Hassall Green, Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Founded in 1829, the present chapel was built in 1858. Registers of baptisms 1838-1952 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
