BOLLINGTON (near Macclesfield)

A township in Prestbury Parish, Macclesfield Hundred (SJ 7286). Kerridge was a separate civil parish from Bollington during the period 1894-1900.
Includes the hamlets of Bollington Cross, Five Ashes, Kerridge, Lower House, Mode Hil and Turnerheath.
The population was 1231 in 1801, 4655 in 1851, 5245 in 1901 and 5644 in 1951.

Prestbury, St. Peter (C of E). The ancient parish church for Bollington.
Bollington, St. John the Baptist (C of E). Built 1834, becoming the parish church in 1842. Registers of Baptisms 1834-1975, Marriages 1838-2003 and Burials 1835-2004 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office.
Bollington Cross, St. Oswald (C of E). Built 1892 as a chapel of ease to St. John the Baptist. Registers of Baptisms 1908-2001 and Marriages 1937-1988 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office.
Bollington, St. Gregory (Roman Catholic), Chapel Street. Founded 1821, the present church was opened in 1834. Registers of baptisms 1834-1867, marriages 1856-1927 and burials 1856-1927 are at the CRO.
Bollington, Methodist Chapel (Primitive), High Street. Built 1859, closed 1956. Registers of baptisms 1941-54 amd marriages 1901-1952 are at the CRO.
Bollington, Methodist Chapel (New Connexion), Grimshaw Lane. Built c1887, closed 1956. Registers of baptisms 1889-1956 are at the CRO.
Bollington, Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan), Wellington Road. Founded 1808. Rebuilt 1837 and 1885. Registers of baptisms 1841-1923 are at the CRO.
Kerridge, Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Built 1895, closed 1982.
Bollington, United Reformed Church (Independent/Congregational), Palmerston Street. Built 1867, closed early 1980s.
