A detached part of Cheadle parish in Macclesfield Hundred (SJ 9387), which until 1877 was part of the joint township of Handforth cum
Bosden. In 1900 it was incorporated into the civil parish of Hazel Grove cum Bramhall, but in 1935 most of the Bosden area was transferred to
Stockport.
The population was 1034 in 1801 (with Handforth), 2021 in 1851 and 2570 in 1901.
