Carrington was a township in Bowdon Parish, Bucklow Hundred (SJ
7492), which became a civil parish in 1866.
In 1920 its boundary with the county of Lancashire was adjusted to follow
the course of the Manchester Ship Canal.
Since 1974 it has been part of the county of Greater Manchester.
Including the hamlet of Holly Bank.
The population was 435 in 1801, 536 in 1851, 514 in 1901, and 627 in 1951.

Bowdon, St. Mary (C of E). The ancient parish church for Carrington.
Carrington, St. George (C of E). A chapelry in Bowdon parish from 1759, originally serving the townships of Carrington and Partington,
created a separate parish in 1887; the church closed in 1990 but the graveyard remains open for burials. Registers of Baptisms 1759–1889 and Burials 1760–1894 have been deposited
at the Cheshire Record Office. Later records (including Marriages from 1884) are held at Partington,
St. Mary.
