CHILDER THORNTON

• Childer Thornton was a township in Eastham ancient parish, Wirral hundred (SJ 3677), which became a civil parish in 1866.
• In 1950 the civil parish was abolished to become part of Ellesmere Port.
• It included the hamlet of Thornton Heath.
• The population was 112 in 1801, 319 in 1851, and 685 in 1901.

Boundary Changes

• 1933 April 1 — Gained parts of Eastham (28 acres, pop. 17 in 1931), Hooton (93 acres, pop. 142 in 1931) and Willaston (near Neston) (28 acres, pop. 0 in 1931), and lost part to Eastham (11 acres, pop. 2 in 1931)
• 1950 April 1 — Abolished and incorporated into Ellesmere Port (884 acres, pop. 949 in 1931)
