LISCARD: St. Thomas (Church of England)

Church History

Founded in 1900 as a chapel to Liscard: St. Mary. In 1925 it became a district church for part of the town of Wallsey (formerly served by Liscard: St. Mary). The boundaries of "The District of Saint Thomas, Liscard" were described in the London Gazette on 29 December 1925:

"All that part of the New Parish (sometime District Chapelry) of Saint Mary, Liscard, in the County of Chester and in the Diocese of Chester, which is bounded upon the north by the New Parish of Emmanuel, New Brighton, upon the west by the Parish of Wallasey, upon the south partly by the New Parish of Saint Luke, Poulton, and partly by the New Parish of Saint John, Egremont, otherwise Liscard, all in the said County and Diocese, and upon the remaining side, that is to say, upon the east by an imaginary line commencing upon the boundary which divides the said New Parish of Saint John, Egremont, otherwise Liscard, from the said New Parish of Saint Mary, Liscard, at a point in the middle of Liscard Road opposite to the middle of the footpath leading into Greenheys Boad, andextending thence north-westward along the middle of Liscard Road for a distance of 20 chains or thereabouts to its junction with the road called Liscard Village, and extending thence north-eastward along the middle of Liscard Village for a distance of 12½ chains or thereabouts to its junction with Bake Lane, and extending thence northward along the middle of Bake Lane for a distance of 18¼ chains or thereabouts to a point opposite to the middle of the roadway leading to the New Brighton Football and Cricket Ground upon the boundary which divides the said New Parish of Saint Mary, Liscard, from the said New Parish of Emmanuel, New Brighton".
