CREWE (near Wybunbury)

• Crewe was a township in Barthomley Parish, Nantwich Hundred (SJ 7354), which became a civil parish in 1866.
• In 1936 part of Crewe was transferred to Monks Coppenhall civil parish and the borough of Crewe.

• In 1974 it was renamed Crewe Green in order to avoid confusion with the neighbouring town and borough of Crewe (formerly known as Monks Coppenhall).

• Including the hamlets of Crewe Green and Slaughter Hill.
• The population was 289 in 1801, 365 in 1851, 406 in 1901, and 182 in 1951.

CHURCHES AND CHAPELS

• Barthomley, St. Bertoline (C of E). The ancient parish church for Crewe (near Wybunbury).
• Crewe Green, St. Michael & All Angels (C of E). A separate parish from 1857 serving Crewe (near Wybunbury). Registers of Baptisms from 1857, Marriages from 1859 and Burials from 1858 are held at the church.
