GODLEY

• Godley was a township in Mottram-in-Longdendale parish, Macclesfield Hundred (SJ 9595), which became a civil parish in 1866.
• In 1923 the whole of Godley was added to Hyde civil parish.
• Including the hamlets of Flowery Field (part) and Godley Hill.
• The population was 270 in 1801, 1353 in 1851, and 1691 in 1901.

CHURCHES AND CHAPELS

• Mottram-in-Longdendale, St. Michael (C of E). The ancient parish church for Godley.
• Godley cum Newton Green, St. John the Baptist (C of E). High Street/Sheffield Road. Built in 1847 as the parish church for Godley and part of Newton by Hyde. Registers of Baptisms 1847–1909, Marriages 1850–1963 and Burials 1850–1906 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office.
