GRANGE

• Grange was a township in West Kirby ancient parish, Wirral hundred (SJ 2387), which became a civil parish in 1866.
• Since 1974 it has been an unparished area in the county of Merseyside.
• It includes the hamlets of Caldy Grange and Newton Carr.
• The population was 10 in 1801, 105 in 1851, 299 in 1901, and 7657 in 1951.

Boundary Changes

• 1889 March 24 — Gained the whole of Newton cum Larton (pop. 66 in 1891)
• 1894 — Lost part to Hoylake cum West Kirby (pop. 17 in 1901)
• 1915 April 1 — Lost part to Hoylake cum West Kirby (53 acres, pop. 0 in 1921)
• 1933 April 1 — Gained part of Saughall Massie (478 acres, pop. 31 in 1931)

Churches and Chapels

• West Kirby: St. Bridget (Church of England). The ancient parish church for the township of Grange.
• Hoylake: Holy Trinity. The district church for part of Grange from 1860.
• Frankby: St. John the Divine (Church of England). The district church for part of Grange from 1861.
• West Kirby: St. Andrew (Church of England). The district church for part of Grange from 1920.
• Newton: St. Michael & All Angels (Church of England). Built ca.1963 as a chapel to West Kirby: St. Bridget. A district church from 1974.
• Newton, Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Built in 1914, closed in 1972.
