Cheshire Towns & Parishes

HASLINGTON

• Haslington was a township in Barthomley Parish, Nantwich Hundred (SJ 7456), which became a civil parish in 1866.
• In 1936 it was extended 1936 to include the hamlet of Wheelock Heath from Wheelock.
• Including the hamlets of Bradeley Fields, Clayhanger, Clay Lanes (part), Far Heath, Kents Green, Oakhanger, Radway Green (part) and Winterley.
• The population was 677 in 1801, 1153 in 1851, 1791 in 1901, and 3223 in 1951.

CHURCHES AND CHAPELS

• Barthomley, St. Bertoline (C of E). The ancient parish church for Haslington.
• Haslington, St. Matthew (C of E). An ancient chapel to Barthomley, becoming the parish church for Haslington in 1860. Registers of Baptisms 1645–1907, Marriages 1652–1753 & 1841–1993, and Burials 1645–1992 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office.
• Oakhanger, Mission Church (C of E). A chapel to Alsager, Christ Church. Registers of Baptisms from 1945 are held at the church (no marriages or burials).
• Haslington, Baptist Union Chapel. Founded 1884, the chapel was opened in 1887 and closed in 1971. Registers of marriages 1908–71 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
• Haslington, Free Gospel Mission. Built in 1870.
• Winterley, Methodist Chapel (Primitive). Built in 1834.
• Haslington, Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Built in 1909.
• Haslington, United Reformed Church (Independent/Congregational). Built in 1810.
