HATTERSLEY

• Hattersley was a township in Mottram-in-Longdendale ancient parish, Macclesfield hundred (SJ 9793), which became a civil parish in 1866.
• The civil parish was abolished in 1936 to become parts of Hyde and Longdendale.
• The population was 455 in 1801, 497 in 1851, and 287 in 1901.

Boundary Changes

• 1936 April 1 — Abolished and divided between Hyde (722 acres, pop. 99 in 1931) and Longdendale (337 acres, pop. 181 in 1931)

• Mottram In Longdendale: St. Michael (Church of England). The ancient parish church for the township of Hattersley.
• Hattersley: St. Barnabas (Church of England). Founded in 1963 as a chapel to Mottram-in-Longdendale, becoming the district church for Hattersley in 1966.
• Hattersley: St. James (Roman Catholic). Founded by 1967.
