KINGSLEY

• Kingsley was a township in Frodsham ancient parish, Eddisbury hundred (SJ 5475), which became a civil parish in 1866.
• It includes the hamlets of Blakelees, Commonside, Crewood (part), Finney Hill, The Hurst, The Slack, Waterloo, Whartons Lake and Wigans Lake.
• The population was 661 in 1801, 1067 in 1851, 1066 in 1901, and 1503 in 1951.

Boundary Changes

• 1882 March 25 — Gained detached part No. 1 of Norley (4 acres, pop. 5 in 1881) .
• 1936 April 1 — Gained part of Kingswood (280 acres, pop. 47 in 1931) and the whole of Newton by Frodsham (442 acres, pop. 421 in 1931), and lost part to Norley (142 acres, pop. 23 in 1931)
• 1988 April 1 — Lost part to Manley

Churches and Chapels

• Frodsham: St. Lawrence (Church of England). The ancient parish church for the township of Kingsley.
• Kingsley: St. John the Evangelist (Church of England). The district church for Kingsley from 1851.
• Kingsley, Methodist Chapel. Built in 1843.
• Kingsley, Brookside Methodist Chapel (Primitive). Built in 1864, closed in 1967. Registers of marriages 1925-1960 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
• Kingsley, Hurst Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Built in 1871.
