Latchford was a township in Grappenhall Parish, Bucklow Hundred (SJ
6187), which became a civil parish in 1866.
In 1894 the part of Latchford outside Warrington County Borough was separated to become Latchford Without.
In 1896 Latchford was extended to include parts of Appleton and Latchford Without and transferred to Lancashire
(where in 1898 it was incorporated into Warrington civil parish).
Including the hamlet of Wilderspool.
The population was 754 in 1801, 2542 in 1851, and 6528 in 1891.
Latchford, St. James the Great (C of E). Built in 1777 as a chapel to Grappenhall, becoming the parish church for parts of Latchford, Thelwall
and Warrington (Lancashire) in 1866. Registers of Baptisms 1777–1942, Marriages 1833–1944 and Burials 1782–1961 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office.
Latchford, Christ Church (C of E), Wash Lane. Founded 1866 as the parsih church for part of Latchford. Registers of Baptisms 1863–1902 and Marriages 1866–1940 have been
deposited at the Cheshire Record Office (no burials here).
