Macclesfield Forest was a township and chapelry in Prestbury Parish,
Macclesfield Hundred (SJ 9772), which became a civil parish in 1866.
The population was 215 in 1801, 269 in 1851, 172 in 1901, and 122 in 1951.

Macclesfield Forest, St. Stephen (Forest Chapel) (C of E). Built in 1673 as a chapel to Prestbury, becoming the parish church for Macclesfield Forest and Wildboarclough in 1906. Registers of Baptisms 1675–1929, Marriages 1891–1968 and Burials 1731–1971have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office.
