NEWTON (near Hyde)
Newton was a township in Mottram-in-Longdendale parish,
Macclesfied Hundred (SJ 9595), which became a civil parish in 1866.
In 1923 the whole of Newton was added to Hyde
civil parish.
Including the hamlets of Flowery Field (part) and Newton Green
The population was 1005 in 1801, 7481 in 1851, and 7407 in 1901.

Newton in Mottram, St. Mary (C of E). Built in 1839 as a chapel to Mottram-in-Longdendale, becoming the parish church for Newton in 1840. Registers of Baptisms 1839–1960,
Marriages 1842–1991 and Burials 1839–1960 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office
Godley cum Newton Green, St. John the Baptist (C of E). The parish church for part of Newton since 1847.
Newton (Flowery Field), St. Stephen (C of E). Built in 1889, becoming a parish church in 1891. Registers of Baptisms 1891–1938 and Marriages 1891–1962 have been deposited
at the Cheshire Record Office (no burials).
Hattersley, St Barnabas (C of E). The parish church for part of Newton from 1966.
