Norbury was a township in Marbury ancient parish, Nantwich hundred
(SJ 5547), which became a civil parish in 1866.
It includes the hamlets of Gauntons Bank, Holtridge, Hurst Green, Norbury Common
and Swanwick Green.
The population was 330 in 1801, 403 in 1851, 289 in 1901, and 241 in 1951.
Churches and Chapels
Marbury: St. Michael (Church of England). An ancient chapelry
in the parish of Whitchurch (Shropshire), which became the district church for
Norbury in 1870.
Bickley: St. Winefrede (Church of England). The
district church for part of Norbury since 1893.
Norbury, Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Built in 1834, closed in 1975.
Registers 1939-1958 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
Norbury, United Reformed Church (Independent/Congregational). Built
in 1868.
