Peover Superior (or Over Peover) (pronounced Pee-ver)
was a township and chapelry in Rostherne ancient parish, Bucklow hundred (SJ 7773),
which became a civil parish in 1866.
It includes the hamlets of Bates Mill, Free Green (part), Over Peover and Parkgate.
The population was 451 in 1801, 543 in 1851, 549 in 1901, and 696 in 1951.

Rostherne: St. Mary (Church
of England). The ancient parish church for the township of Over Peover.
Over Peover: St. Lawrence (Church of England). An ancient chapel
to Rostherne: St. Mary, which became the district church for Over Peover in
1827.
