OXTON

• Oxton was a township in Bidston Parish, Wirral Hundred (SJ 3087), which became a civil parish in 1866.
• In 1898 the whole of Oxton was added to Birkenhead.
• Including the hamlets of Arno Hill and Lingdale.
• The population was 137 in 1801 and 2007 in 1851.

CHURCHES AND CHAPELS

• Woodchurch, Holy Cross (C of E). The ancient parish church for Oxton.
• Oxton, St. Saviour (C of E). Founded 1851 as the parish church for Oxton and part of Claughton cum Grange. Registers of Baptisms from 1844 and Marriages from 1851 are held at the church. Bishop's Transcripts 1851–1854 & 1876–1896 are held at the Cheshire Record Office.
• Prenton, St. Stephen (C of E). The parish church for part of Oxton since 1902.
• Birkenhead, All Saints (C of E). The parish church for part of Oxton from 1911 to 1971.
• Oxton, All Saints (C of E), Shrewsbury Road. Registers 1910–1971 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
• Oxton, Holy Name of Jesus (Roman Catholic). Founded 1899.
• Oxton, Clive Hall Unitarian Chapel. Built in 1851 at Charing Cross, rebuilt in 1903 at Charing Cross, 1960 at Clive Road. Registers 1888–1921 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
