Smallwood was a township in Astbury Parish, Northwich Hundred (SJ
8060), which became a civil parish in 1866.
Including the hamlets of Brookhouse Green, Four Lane Ends (part), Martin's Moss, Mirian Heath, Mossend, Moss Mere, Overton Green, Pool Lane End, Rue Moss, Simms Green, Spen
Green, Spen Moss and Wallhill.
The population was 492 in 1801, 619 in 1851, 530 in 1901, and 585 in 1951.
