TARPORLEY

Tarporley was a township in Tarporley ancient parish, Eddisbury hundred (SJ 5562), which became a civil parish in 1866.
In 1936 part of Eaton (near Tarporley) was added to Tarporley.
It includes the hamlets of Arderne (part), Birch Heath, Cobblers Green and Rhuddall Heath.
The population was 674 in 1801, 1171 in 1851, 1454 in 1901, and 1538 in 1951.

1936 April 1 — Gained parts of Eaton (near Tarporley) (36 acres, pop. 18 in 1931) and Utkinton (63 acres, pop. 9 in 1931), and lost part to Utkinton (3 acres, pop. 0 in 1931)

Tarporley: St. Helen (Church of England). The ancient parish church for the township of Tarporley.
Tarporley, St. Thomas a Becket (Roman Catholic), Nantwich Road/Eaton Road. Founded in 1938.
Tarporley, Baptist Union Chapel. Founded in 1817, Built in 1866.
Tarporley, Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Built in 1791, rebuilt in 1867, closed in 1976. Registers 1839-1894 are at the Cheshire Record Office.
Tarporley, Methodist Chapel (Primitive). Built in 1846.
