TORKINGTON

• Torkington was a township in Stockport ancient parish, Macclesfield hundred (SJ 9386), which became a civil parish in 1866.
• The civil parish was abolished in 1900 to become part of Hazel Grove & Bramhall
• The population was 218 in 1801, 358 in 1851, and 339 in 1901.

Boundary Changes

• 1900 September 30 — Abolished and incorporated into Hazel Grove and Bramhall (pop. 339 in 1901)

• Stockport: St. Mary the Virgin (Church of England). The ancient parish church for the township of Torkington.
• High Lane: St. Thomas (Church of England). The district church for part of Torkington from 1860.
• Norbury: St. Thomas (Church of England). The district church for the remainder of Torkington from 1878.
