Warburton was a township and parish in Bucklow Hundred (SJ 7189),
which became a civil parish in 1866.
In 1933 the boundary with Lancashire was adjusted to follow the course of the
Manchester Ship Canal.
Since 1974 Warburton has been part of the county of Greater Manchester.
Including the hamlet of Moss Brow.
The population was 466 in 1801, 489 in 1851, 403 in 1901, and 376 in 1951.
