WERNETH

Werneth was a township in Stockport ancient parish, Macclesfield hundred (SJ 9592), which became a civil parish in 1866.
The civil parish was renamed Compstall in 1897.
The population was 1152 in 1801 and 3635 in 1851.

Werneth: St. Paul (Church of England). The district church for Werneth from 1841.
Gee Cross: Holy Trinity (Church of England). The district church for part of Werneth from 1880.
Werneth, Brunswick Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Founded in 1826. Registers 1826-1837 are at the Cheshire Record Office. Registers of marriages 1905-1953 are at Manchester Central Library.
Werneth, Methodist Chapel (Primitive). Registers of marriages 1909-1964 are at Manchester Central Library.
