WERNETH

Werneth was a township in Stockport Parish, Macclesfield Hundred (SJ 9592), which became a civil parish in 1866.
In 1897 the part within Hyde borough (including Werneth village) was added to Hyde civil parish, and the remainder of Werneth was renamed Compstall.
The population was 1152 in 1801 and 3635 in 1851.

Werneth, St. Paul (C of E). A separate parish from 1841 serving the township of Werneth, extended in 1877 to include part of Romiley township. Registers of Baptisms 1839–1915, Marriages 1850–1989 and Burials 1841–1887 have been deposited at the Cheshire Record Office.
Gee Cross, Holy Trinity (C of E). The parish church for part of Werneth since 1880.
Werneth, Brunswick Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan). Founded 1826. Registers 1826–1837 are at the Cheshire Record Office. Registers of marriages 1905–1953 are at Manchester Central Library.
