• Withington was a civil parish (SJ 8171) created in 1936 by uniting Lower Withington with Old Withington.
• The civil parish was renamed Lower Withington in 1978.
• The population was 661 in 1951.

Boundary Changes

• 1936 April 1 — Created from the whole of Lower Withington (2393 acres, pop. 531 in 1931)  and Old Withington (1115 acres, pop. 125 in 1931)
