Welcome to the Nineham Site
This is a one name genealogical study of the Nineham family. The bulk of the
coverage is 1750-1900. This is very much a work in progress so if you have any additional
information or corrections please let me know.
Please view the family trees shown on this site as theories; I have not verified
most of the information yet and in some cases I have not based a parent/child relationship
on much evidence. I am working on the theory that all Ninehams are related, since
there are not that many of them and they all seem to originate from the Isle of
Purbeck in Dorset. A few have links back to the Isle of Wight, these may or may not be
related. There is also a Ninham family in Norfolk but I do not think this has any connection, though to confuse matters at least one branch of the Purbeck Ninehams dropped the E (I am still use the Nineham spelling for them to simply the identification process).
Most of the information has come from the Internet and some from original records. Particular thanks goes to Sue Mills for her pages on the Dorset OPC site and all the other contributors to the OPC site.

I have finally got round to regenerating the site. Thanks to Bernie Waters and Garth Ninham for their contributions. Most of the major updates on the family branches are due to them.
I've changed the algorithm used to generate the trees. As a result they now show children for female Ninehams as well, this was necessary because illegitimate children were being missed. However, only the first generation of non Ninehams is shown. Ninehams that marry Ninehams now have a q.v. link to their own branch. (Actually there is only one.)
I've added a page showing some of the links between branches I suspect but don't have any evidence for. I will expand on this when I get a bit more time.

Thought it was about time I did an update, though not much has changed, a few additional events for people.

Joseph Nineham's family branch on the Isle of Wight added (was an unknown Nineham). Four other isolated families added. Moved to a new server and the style updated.

25th July 2008
A few minor changes to families. Site search added. There has been a severe performance problem for the site due to my hosting company, I've now worked round the problem. Sorry this has taken so long, I was ill earlier in the year and the site took a back seat. It should work normally now.

I've rewritten the update scripts (they are now faster and I've fixed some bugs that resulted in broken links). The Place Name Index has been improved and names standardized so, for example, events recorded in a specific church should be listed along with the village. No major changes to any families, but lots of small changes.
29th November 2007
I was going to update the site today ... but I've changed laptop and managed to lose the scripts used to generate the site. It will be a while before I have time to rewrite them.
10th March 2007
Some significant progress on some of the Isle of Wight Ninehams thanks to Thelma and Brian Unwin. I've added a surname index, updated the links and spruced the site up a bit.
12th December 2006
I've finally linked Robert Nineham (Worth Matravers c. 1774) to the 'main' branch. I still don't have any records to prove the link, but the weight of circumstantial information is good enough. Some more progress on Ninehams in the Portsmouth area as a result of contacts on GenesReunited. Pages for branches that have been incorporated into other branches should now redirect to the new page.
3rd September 2006
Lots of new information added and families linked together. Quite a bit of the new data relates to the 1900s but anything pertaining to someone that may be living has been removed. I've improved the look of the site too.

This search uses Google's Custom Search Engine. Unfortunately not every page is in the Google index, so just because it doesn't find something does not mean it isn't on the site. Please try the indexes below as well.

Place Name Index
For a list of places where birth, marriage and death events have occurred in the Nineham family see the place name index.
I've standardized all of the place names and broken the index down by country and region. In the case of English registration districts, the region (county) may not be quite what you expect as some districts straddle counties and some counties have changed over the years. I've tried to be consistent with district/county pairs but some may have slipped through and some districts are in old counties while others are in newer ones.
