REGISTRATION DISTRICTS IN MONTGOMERYSHIRE

The list below shows the civil registration districts in Montgomeryshire between 1837 and 1974. The same districts were used to compile the census returns for the years 1851 to 1921.

For the purposes of these pages "Montgomeryshire" refers to:

the ancient county of Montgomery (1837–89)
the administrative county of Montgomery (1889–1974).

The county of Montgomeryshire was abolished on 1.4.1974 and added to the county of Powys.

Forden	Montgomeryshire	1870	1935	Created 1.7.1870 by renaming Montgomery registration district. Abolished 1.1.1936 and added to Welshpool registration district.
Llanfyllin	Montgomeryshire	1837	1974	Transferred to Powys on 1.4.1974.
Machynlleth	Montgomeryshire	1837	1974	Transferred to Powys on 1.4.1974.
Montgomery	Montgomeryshire	1837	1870	Abolished 1.7.1870 and added to Forden registration district.
Newtown	Montgomeryshire	1837	1974	Transferred to Powys on 1.4.1974.
Welshpool	Montgomeryshire	1837	1935	Created 1.1.1936 out of Forden and Llanfyllin registration districts.
