Hawgood One-Name Study

I study Hawgood genealogy - any place, any time. These web pages are being built to contain parts of the information.

Births Marriages (GRO) Deaths 1837-99 Deaths 1900 on sources repositories
1881 census households other census households Family pages Families before 1837 Parish register extracts article

The web pages already contain lists of Hawgood entries from General Register Office indexes of births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales, starting in 1837, complete up to 1900 and beyond in some cases. The page of sources includes references to each household in which there was a Hawgood in the index to the 1881 census for the U.K. Detail about households, and links to other information about the families, will be added progressively. So far, I have completed information for a family which originated in Rutland and moved to Derby. The page of sources also includes an entry for each Hawgood appearing in the calendar of wills and administrations at the Principal Probate Office in London - wills etc for England and Wales from 1858 onwards. Again, more detail will be added progressively.

I aim to correlate entries in the 1881 U.K. census with information from other sources. I hope to have a record of birth (or christening) for any male or single Hawgood, record of marriage for any married woman named Hawgood, and record of death (or burial, or will) of anyone named Hawgood. I also aim to find what happened to anyone born as a Hawgood who should have appeared in the 1881 census but can't be found, and anyone who died as a Hawgood but for whom I have no census, marriage or birth record. These web pages concentrate on that correlation around the 1881 census.

Census Information - copyright

The census information has been taken first from the index to the 1881 United Kingdom census, transcribed by a co-operative effort by many members of family history societies and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The copyright in the index belongs to the Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The original census material is British Crown Copyright. Census microfilms as well as the index have been consulted in preparing material for these web pages.

Where there is a number in the first column I have further information about the person. If the number is between 1000 and 1200, I know where the person appears in the 1881 U.K. census. I will be adding extra pages with details of families, and census entries - so far only for the family from Rutland and Derby.

If there is an additional line below, I have the relevant certificate for the person - I give more detail of the date and place, sometimes extra information like home, profession, cause of death, informant; and the source number I have allocated in my list of sources.

Deaths 1837-1996

Births 1837-1909 and 1920-1926 (will be completed later)

Marriages 1837 - 1926 (from 1912, marriage index has surname of spouse)

Lists of source documents

At present these are just a list of sources in numerical order. Some have links to the relevant family and census household web pages - more will be added
