I would firstly like to give a Big Thank You to those of you, who have sent in the many transcriptions of Wills that are currently listed on this site, and for making this will transcriptions online site work.

This site is Totally Free and I can assure you that it will remain so,

just like it's Sister Site 'The BMD Certificate exchange Site'.

There are now over 4,800 certificate details listed on the BMD Certificate site, that are looking for new homes.

Now unfortunately I am unable to transcribe wills for others, as I am kept fairly busy updating regularly the web sites that I have. Then I do try to spend some time researching my family history, and helping newcomers to genealogy.

Please visit the Notes Taken From Wills page, as you can search a  large collection of notes/extracts that have been taken from many wills, etc. I have listed these notes under the Surname that they relate to, and I have placed the collection on several pages. It is a large collection and still growing,  I am sure that they will be helpful if you are researching the named person. They range from the 1500's to the 1800's.

These Notes relate to the Northampton, Suffolk and Yorkshire Areas.

There is also the 'Miscellaneous Documents' which is an interesting section.

Where we can now share many different types of documents, that can be useful to us in researching our ancestors.

There is also a Section that relates to Poor Law Records, and there are some very interesting & Helpful Documents placed here, that can be so helpful to us in our research.

I really do thank those of you who have sent in the many great Documents.

Please take a look at these sections, as you will find some great information here.

If you you happen to have any documents that you would like to place on this site to share with others.

Please

Best Wishes to you all, Peter

Will Transcriptions Site Search

index sitemap advanced
site search by freefind

This web site is the place where you can list the Wills of your ancestors,

the site contains a collection of Wills that have been submitted to me for inclusion on the Will Transcriptions Online Web Site, if you have any questions regarding the contents of any of the Wills, then please contact the submitter, whose contact information can be found at the end of each will transcription.

I have listed each will transcription twice, so that you can locate the transcription, either by Surname or by the County where the testator lived at the time of making the will. I have now completed adding a map to each of the County Pages, which shows you the location of the County in the UK, and I have also marked many of the towns where the Testator came from on these maps. I do really hope that you find these useful. Although due to the County Boundary changes over the years, some of the towns and villages are now in a different County to where they were when the testator made the actual will.

My intention is to place on this site transcriptions of as many wills as is possible, in the hope that Will Transcriptions Online will grow into a very large data base of will transcriptions that will assist genealogists and local historians alike, and hopefully helping others to locate those distant relatives. Although for it to work, it will need your input, so if you happen to have a will and would like it to be included on this site, then please email the transcription to me by using the link in the navigation on the left of this page. You can send it as a Word Document by attaching it to an email, or you can simply enter the details in the body of the email.

Please note that this site is not just for wills from the UK,

I would be very pleased to list wills from Worldwide,

so lets make this site into a brilliant data base of will transcriptions.

I have taken many measures to ensure that Email Harvesters are unable to collect any email addresses from this site, as well as my other web sites. I use a Script to enter the contact email address, so as no information can be collected from this site by any form of Harvesters.

So you can be sure that you will not start receiving junk emails from placing your will transcriptions on this site, or even by making an entry in the guest book. I do appreciate that nobody likes receiving junk emails, and that is why I have taken these measures.

Best Wishes To You All

Peter.

You may find this page on this site useful. It is the Probate Registries Page.

On this page you can find a full list of the District Probate Registries & the Probate Sub-Registries as well as the District Probate Registry.

I have also added a few lines about how to obtain a copy of a Will.

England and Wales, Civil Registration Index: 1837-1900 - Births
First Name
About the Search:
"On 1 July 1837 a civil registration system for births, marriages and deaths was introduced in England and Wales. Registration was undertaken by civil registrars who reported to the Registrar General at the General Register Office (GRO) in London, now part of the Office for National Statistics (ONS)." (Mark D. Herber, Ancestral Trails, Genealogical Publishing Company, Inc., 1998)
Since the original birth, marriage and death registers are not open to the public, getting access to the information on one of these certificates is done by first searching the national birth, marriage and death indexes, that have been created by the GRO for this purpose.

I do realise that many wills can prove very difficult to transcribe. You may find the following site which somebody brought to my attention, helpful as it gives a tutorial which will help you learn to read the handwriting found in documents written in English between 1500 and 1800.  http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/Palaeography/

I am afraid that due to copyright issues, I can only list transcriptions.

The copies of wills submitted to these pages remain the property of the submitters, they are not to be copied, reproduced on any web-site without the consent of the submitters or used for any commercial purpose.
I will enter the wills exactly as they are transcribed and submitted to me.

Unfortunately I am unable to transcribe wills for others, as I am kept fairly busy updating regularly the web sites that I have. Then I do try to spend some time researching my family history, and helping newcomers to genealogy.

Please don't forget to place this site in your Favourites, as I am sure that you will find it of great interest, and please don't keep this site to yourself,  tell all of your genealogy friends about it, as I am sure it is going to become a great data base that you will be visiting every now and then.

I have placed a few links on the site for some Free Trials at a couple of well known ancestry sites, I do feel that you can find a great deal of information to help your family tree grow, I myself have used these great Free Trials in the past, but I must admit I did subscribe to a couple, as there was so much info, it was well worth it though, as you can now pay monthly and cancel at any time, Well worth it.

Best Wishes to you all, and I would like to wish you well in your research.  Peter.

NOTICE

I have received an email from Jenni, who has a copy of an old will dating to 1800,

and would like to trace the family concerned.
As Jenni would like to be able to return the parchment to them, so they have a piece of their family history.

The details on the parchment are as follows:

Last will & testament dated 24th July 1800 of John Bowler, Engineer, of the Parish of St Lukes, Middlesex.
Executors of the will are:
Thomas Davies, Coal Merchant
James Hodgeson, Engineer

Appeared personally as witness:
Launcelot James Featherstone

If you can relate to the said John Bowler, then please contact Jenni by

Probate Scams

Please be aware that there are currently several Probate scams in operation via the Internet . Many of these will inform the recipient that they are the beneficiary of a substantial legacy but will ask for fees and/or taxes in advance of sending more information or the release of funds.

These will always be fraudulent and on no account should you make any payment or transfer any funds.

You can obtain further information and advice concerning such scams on www.met.police.uk/fraudalert

Please make a visit to this great Web Site

Here is a Free site that will list Birth, Marriage & Death Certificates  that people have bought in error, I myself have done this in the past, so somebody suggested to me about how good it would be to have a site where people could list these certificates, together with contact details.

I have designed the site and do hope that many of you will make use of it and hopefully benefit from it.
