Introduction

Welcome to the Brebner/Bremner Genealogy Pages. Since starting the research of my own
Brebner family from Aberdeen almost twenty years ago, I have been accumulating information on all
Brebner/Bremner
families worldwide. Much of that information is available here in a series of
searchable databases,
biographies,
monumental inscriptions and
compiled genealogies.

While the most common spellings of the name are Bremner and Brebner, other
variations, Bramner, Brebber, Brember, Brimner,
Brymner, Brimer and Brymer, as well as the rarer Brebidar and Brabendar forms often appear.
|
|
|
|
Many of these spellings were used interchangeably, and even as late as the twentieth century, those spellings could
vary year by year. Much depended on the literacy of the individual, and more usually, the literacy of the
recording clerk. The
origins of the name also makes interesting reading, although I have yet to prove
any of my (or anyone else's!)
ancestors' families back to those 14th century Flemish weavers, the 'Brabanders' that left their profession and homeland
to take the name to Scotland.

My goal is to link as many of those separate Brebner/Bremner family groups as is possible. This is a large
project, and while I now have over
450 family genealogies listed by area, I welcome any new information, and especially
any corrections to my data.

2013 News
|
|
After almost a year of neglect, I'm once again looking at the website for additions and improvements. At present (April 16, 2013) I have added almost 100 updates
to the over 450 compiled genealogies. These all remain under the same numbered links as before. During the past six months, I have added many newspaper articles
that give a glimpse into the personal lives of the people detailed in those compilations.
The recent problems with the BMD and UK census database searches generating incorrect information have been corrected, and those datasets are now current
to April 2013.
