REGISTRATION DISTRICTS IN DERBYSHIRE

The list below shows the civil registration districts in Derbyshire since 1837. The same districts were used to compile the census returns for the years 1851 to 1921.

For the purposes of these pages, "Derbyshire " refers to:

the ancient county of Derby (1837–89)
the administrative county of Derby (1889–1974), with the county borough of Derby.
the non-metropolitan county of Derbyshire (from 1974), with the unitary authority of Derby (from 1997).

Basford	Nottinghamshire	1837	1936	Partly in Derbyshire until 1.1.1937.
Belper	Derbyshire	1837	1994	Abolished 1.6.1994 and divided between Amber Valley and Bakewell registration districts.
Burton upon Trent	Staffordshire	1837	1936	Partly in Derbyshire until 1.1.1937.
Chapel-en-le-Frith	Derbyshire	1838	1974	Created 20.1.1838 out of High Peak registration district. Abolished 1.4.1974 and added to High Peak registration district.
Chesterfield	Derbyshire	1837	2013	Abolished 17.1.2013 and added to Derbyshire registration district.

Glossop	Derbyshire	1898	1974	Created 1.4.1898 out of Hayfield registration district. Abolished 1.4.1974 and added to High Peak registration district.
Hayfield	Derbyshire	1838	1938	Created 20.1.1838 out of High Peak registration district. Abolished 1.4.1938 and added to Chapel-en-le-Frith registration district.
High Peak	Derbyshire	1837	1838	Abolished 20.1.1838 and divided between Chapel-en-le-Frith and Hayfield registration districts.
High Peak	Derbyshire	1974	2013	Created 1.4.1974 out of Chapel-en-le-Frith, Glossop and Hyde registration districts. Abolished 17.1.2013 and added to Derbyshire registration district.
Ilkeston	Derbyshire	1938	1997	Created 1.4.1938 out of Shardlow and Belper registration districts. Abolished 1.4.1997 and added to Erewash registration district.
Mansfield	Nottinghamshire	1837	1936	Partly in Derbyshire until 1.1.1937.
Matlock	Derbyshire	1837	1838	Renamed 1.1.1839 to become Bakewell registration district.
Repton	Derbyshire	1937	1974	Created 1.1.1937 out of Burton upon Trent registration district. Renamed 1.4.1974 to become Swadlincote registration district.
Rotherham	Yorkshire West Riding	1837	1895	Partly in Derbyshire until 1.7.1895.
Shardlow	Derbyshire	1837	1974	Abolished 1.4.1974 and added to Derby registration district.
South Derbyshire	Derbyshire	1997	2013	Created 1.4.1997 out of Swadlincote and Derby registration districts. Abolished 17.1.2013 and added to Derbyshire registration district.
Swadlincote	Derbyshire	1974	1997	Created 1.4.1974 by renaming Repton registration district. Abolished 1.4.1997 to become South Derbyshire registration district.
Tamworth	Staffordshire	1837	1895	Partly in Derbyshire until 30.9.1895.
Uttoxeter	Staffordshire	1837	1935	Partly in Derbyshire until 1.10.1935.
Worksop	Nottinghamshire	1837	1936	Partly in Derbyshire until 1.1.1937.
