REGISTRATION DISTRICTS IN WARWICKSHIRE

The list below shows the civil registration districts in Warwickshire since 1837. The same districts were used to compile the census returns for the years 1851 to 1921.

For the purposes of these pages, "Warwickshire" refers to:

the ancient county of Warwick (1837–89), including the city of Coventry (1837–42).
the administrative county of Warwick (1889–1974), with the county boroughs of Birmingham, Coventry and Solihull (from 1964).
the non-metropolitan county of Warwickshire (from 1974).

Birmingham North	Warwickshire	1924	1932	Created 1.10.1924 out of Aston and Birmingham registration districts. Abolished 1.10.1932 and added to Birmingham registration district.
Birmingham South	Warwickshire	1924	1932	Created 1.9.1924 out of King's Norton, Birmingham and Aston registration districts. Abolished 1.10.1932 and divided between Birmingham and Smethwick registration districts.
Bromsgrove	Worcestershire	1837	1844	Partly in Warwickshire untl 20.10.1844.
Chipping Norton	Oxfordshire	1837	1932	Partly in Warwickshire until 1.4.1932.
Coventry	Warwickshire	1837	1974	Transferred to West Midlands on 1.4.1974.
Foleshill	Warwickshire	1837	1932	Abolished 1.4.1932 and divided between Nuneaton, Rugby, Meriden and Warwick & Leamington registration districts.
Hinckley	Leicestershire	1837	1896	Partly in Warwickshire until 1.5.1896.
King's Norton	Warwickshire	1837	1924	Abolished 1.9.1924 and added to Birmingham South registration district.
Lutterworth	Leicestershire	1837	1932	Partly in Warwickshire until 1.4.1932.
Meriden	Warwickshire	1837	1974	Transferred to West Midlands on 1.4.1974.
Mid Warwickshire	Warwickshire	1985	2005	Created 1.10.1985 from Southam and Warwick & Leamington registration districts. Abolished 1.5.2005 and added to Warwickshire South registration district.
North Warwickshire	Warwickshire	1974	2005	Created 1.4.1974 out of Atherstone and Meriden registration districts. Abolished 1.5.2005 and added to Warwickshire North registration district.
Nuneaton	Warwickshire	1837	1985	Renamed 1.10.1985 to become Nuneaton & Bedworth registration district.
Nuneaton & Bedworth	Warwickshire	1985	2005	Created 1.10.1985 by renaming Nuneaton registration district. Abolished 1.5.2005 and added to Warwickshire North registration district.
Rugby	Warwickshire	1837	2005	Abolished 1.5.2005 to become Warwickshire East registration district.

Stourbridge	Warwickshire	1837	1974	Transferred to West Midlands on 1.4.1974.
Stratford-on-Avon	Warwickshire	1837	1985	Abolished 1.10.1985 and added to South Warwickshire registration district.
Sutton Coldfield	Warwickshire	1932	1974	Created 1.4.1932 out of Tamworth, Meriden, Lichfield and Walsall registration districts. Abolished 1.4.1974 and added to Birmingham registration district.
