REGISTRATION DISTRICTS IN EAST SUSSEX

The list below shows the civil registration districts in East Sussex after 1889. The same districts were used to compile the census returns for the years 1881 to 1911.

County boundaries and definitions have changed frequently, but the term "East Sussex" on these pages refers to:

• the administrative county of East Sussex (1889–1974), with the county boroughs of Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings.
• the non-metropolitan county of East Sussex (from 1974).
