REGISTRATION DISTRICTS IN YORKSHIRE WEST RIDING

The list below shows the civil registration districts in Yorkshire West Riding between 1837 and 1974. The same districts were used to compile the census returns for the years 1851 to 1921.

For the purposes of these pages "Yorkshire West Riding" refers to:

the West Riding of the ancient county of York (1837–89)
the administrative county of York, West Riding (1889–1974), with the county boroughs of Barnsley (from 1913), Bradford, Dewsbury (from 1913), Doncaster (from 1927), Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds, Rotherham (from 1902), Sheffield, Wakefield (from 1915) and York.

The county of Yorkshire West Riding was abolished on 1.4.1974 and added to the counties of West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Humberside.
